Skrtel Claims Club Must Start Now

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has claimed that the club must start performing from the pre-season in order to lay the foundations for a good campaign. After finishing second last season, Liverpool will be hoping to win the Premier League this time around. However, it will be extremely tough given that they will also have to contend with European matches of the midweek. Last season, they only had to concentrate on the league. Skrtel says that Liverpool need to hit the ground running from the pre-season if they are to overcome this challenge.

Due to this aspect, manager Brendan Rodgers has been keen on bringing players before the start of the pre-season. Even though the club has lost Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £ 75 million, they have already signed four players who will be key over the course of the campaign. Apart from a couple of fringe players, Liverpool’s transfer activity is almost done and they can concentrate on the pre-season. Liverpool will be one of the several Premier League clubs touring the United States, but they also have friendly matches against the likes of Preston and Brondby prior to flying to the States.

Liverpool will be coming up against a number of top teams like AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City in the pre-season. "The first games are in front of us and we're looking forward to them. When you start pre-season with a good result, the mood and atmosphere is much better. We'll try to get a good result for a good atmosphere in the team. Everybody likes to play games and especially when you're eight or nine days into training, double sessions every day. It's very hard. It will be very interesting because we'll play against big teams in great stadiums," said Skrtel to the official site of Liverpool.
