Carragher Claims Liverpool Centre Back is Weak

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has sensationally claimed that Liverpool centre back partnership of Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho are weak in a mental sense. The club managed to slip out of the title race in the most extraordinary fashion after conceding three goals in the space of 10 minutes against Crystal Palace. Coming into the match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Liverpool had the opportunity to go one step closer to the title.

A win for the team would have put massive pressure on Manchester city, who is set to take on Aston Villa only on Wednesday. For much periods of the match, it looked like Liverpool are not only going to take three points, but also reduce the superior goal difference of City quite dramatically. They were leading 3-0 with only 12 minutes remaining on the clock. Then, Crystal Palace managed to put together an astonishing comeback, which saw them get a point from the match. It also ended any hopes of Liverpool winning the title if City win against Villa.

Carragher, who has made several hundred appearances for Liverpool, criticised the centre back partnership after the match by saying that it was their fault to consider three goals against a team with nothing to play for.

"I look at those centre-backs and that's weak mentally for me, not pushing out. You do that as a centre-back. In plenty of tough away games you keep driving out and then you've got to come back and then you've got to keep pushing out. That's 17 games Sakho and Skrtel have played together now and one clean sheet. They always concede goals whenever they play together," said Carragher. City will be able to win the title if they win the next two matches. Their title was in their hands even before this match.
